I think most of parents want their children to go to a college and most the children want to go to a college themselves. We would like to discuss how to prepare for college in next several posts and to answer several questions most parents and students have, such as “why go to college? “, “how to prepare academically for college?”, “how to prepare outside the classroom for college?”, “how to choose a college?”, “what are the most common sources of scholarship?”, “what are the most common sources of financial aid?”, “how to prepare for SAT?” and so on.

    在美国,除了认真学好必休课程外,还要多参加学校组织的社团活动,并认真地展士自己的才能,这不但会增长才能,还会积累在高中阶段的学分.

    In the United States, in addition to take right courses, participating in school and community activities, showing the student’s talents are very important for college preparation. In the meantime, the student can gain a lot of experience and improve social and other skills.

    美高中很重视个性教育和兴趣的培养,因为大学录取时很重视考核所报专业,是否是自己的兴趣专业?

    College education in U.S.A stresses personal interest, when a university considers whether to accept a student or not, they will check whether the student likes the major and has passion on that field.

    选一个适合孩子的专业并不容易。最好是孩子感兴趣又有前途的专业。我听到一位美国母亲抱怨老大和老二由他们的兴趣选了专业，毕业后找不到工作。她下定决心让老三学护理专业，因为老龄化社会护士不够。

    To help a child to choose a right major for him or her is not easy. The best major for a child should match his or her interest and have good growth potential. I heard an American mother complained that she let the eldest child and the second child choose their majors by their interests, it turns out they can not find a job after graduation. She decided to let the third daughter study nursing, because not enough nurses in an ageing society.
