Electronic Engineer Salary

Electronic engineering

Electronics engineering, also referred to as electronic engineering, is an engineering discipline where non-linear and active electrical components such as electron tubes, and semiconductor devices, especially transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, are utilized to design electronic circuits, devices and systems, typically also including passive electrical components and based on printed circuit boards.

The term denotes a broad engineering field that covers important subfields such as analog electronics, digital electronics, consumer electronics, embedded systems and power electronics. Electronics engineering deals with implementation of applications, principles and algorithms developed within many related fields, for example solid-state physics, radio engineering, telecommunications, control systems, signal processing, systems engineering, computer engineering, instrumentation engineering, electric power control, robotics, and many others.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is one of the most important and influential organizations for electronics engineers.

Electronic Engineer

An electronic engineer is someone who is responsible for designing electronics, quality assurance, and project management. They are fully certified engineers who have completed an undergraduate degree in electronic engineering. Electronic engineers find employment in manufacturing, research, and product development. Electronic engineers design many newelectronic products. These products range from the simple radio to a global positioning system or GPS.

Education

In order to become an electronic engineer, you will need both post-secondary education and certification. A degree in electronic engineering is available from a wide range of universities, both traditional and online. This type of degree is available through the faculty of engineering.

To qualify for admission into a degree program, you will need high marks in high schoolphysics, math, English, calculus, and technology courses. The competition for these programs is very intense, as they lead directly to employment opportunities as an engineer. Due to the increased usage of electronics in a wide range of consumer products, electronic engineers are in high demand. They are often employed directly out of university into well paying positions.

All engineers must obtain certification before they can accept a position and this process is management by the American Association of Engineers. Upon graduation, the candidate must apply to this association. Additional courses and examination are required before certification is granted. Upon successful completion of this program, the designation of P.Eng or professional engineer can be used.

Working Environment

Some examples of high-tech projects that electronics engineers work on are global positioning systems that can pinpoint a car’s location, giant generators that can power entire cities, or a new design for an airplane’s electrical system.

Engineers work in offices, labs, or industrial plants. Many work a normal 40-hour week. At times, they work longer to meet deadlines.

Salary Information

Jobs for electronic engineers are expected to experience little or no change through 2018. There will be a need for more electronic devices like giant electric power generators or wireless phone transmitters, but electronic engineers will face competition from companies based in other countries.

Currently, the average yearly wages of electrical engineers earn an average of $88,000.
